Background of the Study
Childhood diarrhea is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in many developing countries, including Nigeria. Diarrhea can lead to dehydration, malnutrition, and even death if not properly managed. Nurses are often the first point of contact for parents seeking care for children with diarrhea. By providing education on hygiene, sanitation, and the importance of oral rehydration, nurses can play a significant role in reducing the incidence of childhood diarrhea.
In Borno State, where access to healthcare can be limited due to insecurity and poverty, nurse-led parental education programs could be vital in reducing childhood diarrhea cases. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of such programs in promoting preventive measures and improving parents' ability to manage diarrhea at home.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of preventive measures, childhood diarrhea remains a significant public health problem in Borno State. Nurse-led parental education programs could play a key role in reducing diarrhea cases, but the effectiveness of these programs has not been adequately studied. This research will investigate the impact of nurse-led parental education on reducing childhood diarrhea in Borno State.
Objectives of the Study
To evaluate the effectiveness of nurse-led parental education in reducing childhood diarrhea cases in Borno State.
To assess the knowledge of parents regarding the prevention and management of childhood diarrhea.
To identify challenges faced by nurses in delivering parental education on childhood diarrhea prevention.
Research Questions
How effective is nurse-led parental education in reducing childhood diarrhea cases in Borno State?
What is the level of parental knowledge about the prevention and management of childhood diarrhea in Borno State?
What challenges do nurses face in delivering educational interventions to reduce childhood diarrhea cases?
Research Hypotheses
Nurse-led parental education significantly reduces childhood diarrhea cases in Borno State.
Parents in Borno State have limited knowledge of the prevention and management of childhood diarrhea.
Challenges such as inadequate resources and cultural barriers hinder the effectiveness of nurse-led parental education programs.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on nurse-led parental education programs aimed at reducing childhood diarrhea in Borno State. Limitations may include the variability in program implementation across different healthcare centers and challenges in reaching all target populations due to ongoing security concerns.
